Mussel extract treatment of arthritis: animals response to the extract

MUSSEL EXTRACT TREATMENT OF ARTHRITIS: ANIMALS RESPONSE TO THE EXTRACT

With regard to the benefit derived animals respond very well indeed. However, the response with regard to the ease with which the animals accept the administration of the extract depends very much on the individual and partially on the species. For instance, it is usual, though not universal, to find that cats enjoy taking the special tablet form of the extract prepared for them. Probably this is a natural reaction because of the 'fishy' nature of the animal tablet. Dogs vary considerably. Some will almost knock their owners over in their anxiety to get at the tablets, whilst for others the tablets have to be disguised, perhaps by being put inside something they really enjoy. Horses receive a powdered form of the extract so that it can be easily mixed in with a mash-type feed. In general, horses are, at first, quite reluctant to take their food if the extract is mixed with it because they can detect its presence by odour; but this reluctance is soon overcome.
The results of treating arthritic animals with the mussel extract preparation are usually very good. Dogs and cats which have been so affected mat the only kind thing to do would be to have them put to sleep have recovered within two weeks. The extent of the recovery can be such that no indication of physical disability can be detected. This has been particularly noticeable in dogs such as Labradors and German Shepherds, which seem to be prone to arthritic disorders in the hips with advancing age. Cats, whose leg joints have become arthritic after accidents have also benefited from the mussel extract.
Most of the horses treated with the substance have been involved in the racing circuits where a short spell of inactivity due to a muscular tie up or lameness in general can be very expensive for the owners. It has been usual for such animals to be fit for training and racing again within two weeks of starting the mussel extract treatment. As has already been mentioned earlier, it is also quite possible for their form to be improved because of the vitality factor involved in the extract. However, because the mussel extract is not a stimulant, it does not stop an animal being treated whilst actively engaged in racing. Also, the fact that it is not a stimulant lends support to the postulation that this material influences the body in a very basic way. This applies both to the anti-arthritic factor and the vitality factor.
